Where The Shortstop Really Is
The balls are worn and brown, and at this age the players may not display the greatest skill or knowledge of the game – but it’s amazing how often they do, a testament to keiki and coaches alike. The best part of taking in a Pinto Division (ages 7-9) game is the enthusiasm of the youngsters. So it was on a recent day at Lihue Baseball Park – a day between the rains – when the Pirates and the Orioles of the Lihue Baseball League got together. (The Pirates are in black jerseys, the Orioles in orange.) And in the end, it’s the two lines of opposing players shaking hands and offering a sportsman-like “Good game” that matters most.
OK, that and the post-game snacks.
