A Day Of Peace In Hanapepe

“Peace on Earth” seems like such a far-fetched concept, yet it’s something most of us yearn for. It’s baffling how something that, in theory, is so easily obtainable if we all just learned to agree to disagree, but is so challenging in reality because we have such a hard time accepting that not everyone has the same perceptions about life that we do. And how can we even conceptualize the end of war when we can’t even manage to keep the peace in our own households or our places of employment? Conflict seems to be part of our egotistical nature, but for those who are still dreamers, Sunday (Sept. 21) marks International Day of Peace — a great time to ponder the possibilities. Storybook Theatre in Hanapepe will recognize the day with festivities from 4 to 7 p.m. in Sparky’s Garden. The evening will conclude with a flashlight procession to the World Peace Statue of Quan Yin at Kauai Soto Zen Temple and the ringing of the peace bell. This in from MidWeek Oahu entertainment columnist Tom Moffatt: Congrats to Olympic ice dancers Tanith Belbin and Charlie White, who recently were engaged on Kauai. Belbin shared the details of her Big Moment, which happened during a hike: “It was three-and-a-half hours long, so by the time we got to the waterfall, we were sweaty and muddy and battered from the trip, but it was well worth it. We wound up at the foot of this waterfall that was probably the most incredible sight I had ever seen in my life, and that’s where Charlie proposed. I couldn’t have asked for a more memorable place to have the most incredible moment of my life take place. He definitely outdid himself.” …
