Doing Business With Good Businesses
I have to use this opportunity to plug a couple of businesses I was truly pleased with recently for their level of customer service. First of all, a few months ago on my way to conduct an interview, I was in a small fender-bender while cruising through the traffic mess that is Kapaa. Needless to say, my car needed a makeover and my insurance company was quick to respond. Thanks to Jesse Corbett of GEICO, who made the entire process so smooth and easy, as well as the Kauai Foreign Cars team, who made my tiny vehicle look brand new again and kept me posted every step of the way. Storybook Theatre has embarked on an “Imagination with Responsibility” tour that teaches keiki about the importance of marine wildlife conservation. With the help of artists Patrick Ching and Evelyn Roth, inflatable monk seals were created in order to give children an interactive experience while learning about the anatomy, behavior and biology of these critically endangered creatures. Wilcox Memorial Hospital‘s current president and CEO Kathy Clark will retire June 30 to join her family on the Mainland. Hawaii Pacific Health has announced that Jen Chahanovich is her replacement. Volunteer extraordinaire Ric Cox is at it again. He is the genius behind “Adopt-A-Classroom,” which has had such great success over the years and continues to expand. In fact, a new program called “Aloha Angels” recently has branched out from it, dedicated to raising private funds for each of the public elementary schools on-island. So far, they have raised more than $200,000 for Kauai students and teachers, and more than $100,000 through grants. The goal is to distribute $1 million a year. A recent “Ladies Night,” hosted by The Specific Chiropractic Center turned out to be quite a success. The evening of music and local grinds provided a fun place for women to enjoy the services and products of several small businesses around the island. More than $800 was raised and donated to Boys & Girls Club and Na Lei Wili.
