Kicking Up The Talent Level
As if anyone needed more proof about the high quality of soccer on Kaua’i, consider this:
More than 500 boys and girls, ranging from age 7 through 18, playing on 36 teams in six age divisions, are participating in the “select” Kauai Soccer Association spring season. Select meaning that the league is not open-registration, such as AYSO, but players are selected by coaches. The season began in February and continues into May. The talent was in evidence on a recent Saturday at North Vidinha Stadium Field when the Garden Island Football Club (orange) met the Kaua’i Bulls (red) of Hanalei in a Boys U-12 game. The Bulls prevailed 3-1 in a well-played game by both sides.
And speaking of talent: League commissioner Kevin Devitt says at least three Kaua’i boys will be invited to play in the HYSA senior all-star game on Oahu. “I can’t name them yet, but soon,” he says.
