Meditative Art And Sound

Crystal Lynn and Robert Xavier Lober
Owners of Crystal Harmonics Sound Art Kauai

Please tell us about your business. Robert: Crystal Harmonics is an art gallery and a sound temple. Sound Art Kauai is about visual arts as well as sound. We have tools for transformation, like our singing crystal bowls, which are some of the finest singing bowls in the world. They are pure quartz crystal and are imbued with gemstones, crystals and precious metals – everything from tour-maline to platinum to simple materials.

What is a singing crystal bowl? Robert: It is a high purity quartz vessel. The result is that, when lightly wrapped or chimed by a leather wand, they sing. That singing is a signature of not only the quartz, but the crystal or gemstone that’s imbued in the bowl. The sounds are harmonizing to the human ear. They help to allow the mind to stop the chatter we all experience so you can attain a meditative state. The bigger the bowl, the deeper the sound.

Crystal: It’s a physical experience as well as an emotional experience because, like all music, it speaks to our emotions and our hearts and not necessarily to our mind. It’s an energetic release.

How are the bowls created? Robert: With very high temperatures. They crush Carolina quartz, which is put into a high-tech furnace and fused into a bowl shape. After it comes out of the furnace the first time, other elements, like serpentine or platinum, are fused into it at high temperatures.

How does one select a bowl that’s right for them? Robert: We help clients select bowls based on the alchemy of the bowl and their note.

Why does the sound create a reaction? Crystal: Sound waves can pass through anything. You’re basically about 70 percent water, and sound waves can move through water, so they move through your body as well.

Who can benefit from these bowls? Crystal: Everybody. You don’t have to be a healer or massage therapist to have one; everyone can use them. I have people from all walks of life buy them: teachers, physicists, doctors, nurses. I teach people how to use the bowls before they leave.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of your business? Crystal: I love what I do. It’s about showing people what they can experience for themselves on a deeper level.

What else do you offer at your business? Robert: My wife also is a sound healer and takes individual or group appointments. She does work on specific energy issues people are grappling with. She also teaches workshops and does classes. In addition, every Wednesday evening we do a half-hour sound meditation that’s free and open to the public. It starts at 7:30 p.m. and doors open at 7.

Why did you choose to locate your business in Koloa? Robert: We live in Koloa and we love this area. We like the ambiance of Old Koloa Town; it feels good here.

Open Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and by appointment, in the courtyard of Old Koloa Town Shops, 5330 Koloa Road, 651-9954.
