Strength was certainly proven to be in numbers Sept. 8 when an unprecedented number of people marched down Rice Street in support of Bill 2491 related to the disclosure of pesticide use from seed companies. Thousands of people gathered from around the island to protest GMO activities that have taken substantial root on the island. Councilmen and co-introducers of the bill Gary Hooser and Tim Bynum were joined by councilwoman JoAnn Yukimura at the historic Mana March in support of the movement. The Beach House restaurant in Poipu was recently nominated as having one of the best sunset views in the world. The Daily Mail released a list of what it considers to be 30 of the world’s best restaurants with sunset views. There were nine restaurants featured in the United States with the Beach House being the only establishment in Hawaii. It’s no surprise that the successful Adopt-A-Classroom program is in the news yet again. Founder Ric Cox says all six elementary classrooms at Kanuikapono Public Charter School were adopted. A total of 36 classrooms are now officially adopted at three North Shore elementary schools. The Lihue Business Association has invited Ford Fuchigami, the deputy director of 15 commercial and general aviation airports for the Hawaii State Department of Transportation.

Fuchigami was appointed to his position in 2011. He is responsible for overseeing the state’s airport system with his team of some 1,200 employees. His goal is to create a safe, attractive and efficient airport environment that encourages travel to the islands.
