Funny men Augie T and Rex Navarrete will share the stage for the first time Friday (March 7) at Kauai War Memorial, in a benefit for the Typhoon Haiyan Philippines relief fund. Navarrete is a well-known Filipino-American comedian who has toured the world. He currently is developing his own television series, Rex in the City, for MTV Philippines. He joins local comedian Augie T on a tour across the Islands to help raise money to support those affected by last year’s typhoon. Tickets cost $15 and are on sale at Kmart in Lihue. Kauai Humane Society sponsors its 62nd annual fundraiser dinner this Saturday (March 8). Last year’s event, which featured Colbie Caillat, was a blast – to which I can personally attest. This is sure to be another fun-filled evening, with a special performance this year by ever-popular Willie K. The event, held at Kauai Marriott Resort, starts at 5:30 p.m. and includes dinner, live and silent auctions, and an awards presentation. Mokihana Club is presenting its first-ever Spring Fling Fashion Show Saturday (March 8) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring fashions from Macy’s – men, women, keiki and kupuna will be represented stylishly at Kauai Beach Resort. Former Miss Kauai Diane Melchor and former Mayor Maryanne Kusaka will serve as masters of ceremonies. Lunch is included, as well as complimentary mimosas. Anaina Hou, Bill and Joan Porter‘s 14-acre community park and nonprofit in Kilauea, soon will have a new playground – designed and built by the community, with from North Shore keiki. It also will have the influence of Leathers & Associates, a company known for its state-of-the-art playground designs that assisted in the construction of Kamalani Playground at Lydgate Beach Park. The design day is March 10 in North Shore classrooms, and the playground unveiling is slated for March 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kauai Mini Golf. Artist Patrick Ching is staging another KAI Show this year at Princeville Center, where he will create paintings to be auctioned off March 15 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The public is invited to visit the temporary gallery as the artist crafts his marine-life masterpieces. You can visit Ching weekdays from noon to 6 p.m. through March 14. A portion of the auction’s proceeds will benefit Kilauea Point Natural History Association.
