Feeling The Seasons Change
It was an unusually toasty October, and I don’t know about you but I’m glad cooler days and nights are finally here. I look forward to savoring the season as I delightfully embrace the chilly mornings with a hot cup of Joe and a cozy kitty, while the sun peeks over the horizon and graces me with its golden presence …
The changing weather also means the holidays are here again, and who doesn’t love the fun and festivities that coincide with this special season? One of the first events in celebration of Thanksgiving is Mixed Doubles Turkey Shoot Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 22 and 23). The tennis tournament is sponsored by Poipu Kai Tennis in support of Kauai United Way. Late registration is open through Wednesday (Nov. 19) and fee is $25 per person, which includes a light lunch and beverages. Call Poipu Kai Tennis Pro Shop at 742-8706 for more information …
I heart National Tropical Botanical Garden, and it seems I can’t help but mention the nonprofit on a regular basis, mostly because it has some terrific events lined up to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The next one, Art in the Garden Reception and Preview, is coming up Friday (Nov. 21). Guests can visit McBryde Garden for a mere $25 to enjoy a day that includes a scenic tram ride through Lawai Valley, music by Kauai Community College jazz band, and a chance to experience the new Biodiversity Trail, along with pupus by Greenery Cafe, beverages and wine. Participants will be the first to check out Patrick Dougherty‘s newest sculpture made of invasive plant material harvested from the garden. Tickets can be purchased online at ntbg.brownpapertickets.com. For more information, visit ntbg.org …

If you missed the last Color Relay Extravaganza for Kapaa Middle School‘s choir and ukulele band (which, if I remember correctly, was a soggy day), you’re in luck because there is another one early Saturday (Nov. 22) morning. Registration begins at 6 a.m. at Puakea Golf Course. This time, the entry fee is only $20 for adults and the price will not increase at the door.
