I’m happy to say that the environmentally friendly biz FloWater has returned to the island. Young entrepreneur and Kauai native Wyatt Taubman re-installed FloWater refill stations at Ching Young Village Center in Hanalei and at North Shore General Store in Princeville Shopping Center. Island School is another soon-to-be location. The stations allow people to fill their reusable bottles with purified, chilled water, saving plastic bottles from accumulating in the landfill. Kudos to Midas Hawaii owners Bob and Dianne Pereira, who presented a check for $18,782.21 to Ronald McDonald House in Honolulu — home to children from Kauai and around the Pacific who must travel to Oahu for serious medical treatments. The money was raised in Midas’s annual memorial golf tournament. It’s nice to know we have such great corporate neighbors …

Kauai Humane Society has formed a new partnership with ActivityKauai.com — a locally owned and operated e-commerce website that assists residents and visitors in finding information, such as the best tours and products on the island. ActivityKauai.com will donate a portion of its proceeds to KHS to help support its animal-welfare programs, including the Shelter Pet Field Trip Program, which allows visitors to take dogs out for the day to enjoy each other’s company …

The Red Clay Jazz Festival starts Wednesday (June 25) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m with a jam session at Kauai Marriott Resort‘s Aupaka Bar in Lihue. The four-day festival will culminate with a performance Saturday (June 28) from 4 to 9 p.m. at Kauai Lagoons. Artists on stage that evening include headliners Grammy award-winner Diane Schuur, as well as Mississippi Heat, and Swinging Shift with Dennis McGraw and David Braun. Kauai Planning & Action Alliance has its annual meeting Monday (June 30) from 3 to 5 p.m. at Kauai Community College‘s OCET Building, Room 106-C/D. The session is free to the public and will cover highlights from the community indicators report, “Measuring What Matters for Kauai,” as well as the Keiki to Career Kauai initiative. In addition, attendees will have the chance to explore Design Thinking — an interactive program that helps generate out-of-the-box solutions to some of the island’s current challenges.
