The cast of ‘Rent!’ will join ‘Kaua‘i Cabaret … Come As You Are’ Friday at KCC Performing Arts Center

MidWeek Kaua’i invites you to enter the “we media” universe. It’s so easy. We’re starting a new feature in the paper. You send your photos, we ooh and ahhhh, and then we publish them in the paper in a new section titled Focus on Kaua’i (see page 30). Send us everything from family reunions to people and their pets, a day at the beach or a sports celebration, a trophy fish catch or just a precious or even silly moment shared by your family. Each Focus page will essentially be a Kaua’i family photo album. Please send your photos by e-mail to senior editor Terri Hefner at thefner@midweek.com, with the subject line “Focus on Kaua’i.” And be sure to include your name or the name of the person who snapped the photo. No professionally shot photos, please. Here’s looking at you! …

Here’s a novel don’t-miss event scheduled for Friday, Sept. 10. It’s called “Kaua’i Cabaret … Come as You Are,” a wowza evening of song, dance, poetry slam, comedy, drag and drama that includes the cast of Rent!, Kaua’i Sings!, Love Tribe, Pink Pebbles Crew and more at Kaua’i Community College. If you missed Rent!, this is your chance to redeem yourself. Kaua’i Sings! is always, always awesome. Love Tribe – where would we be without Isa Maria and her commitment to growing and developing as a drummer with her troupe? The moving photo exhibit “Hawaii Family Portraits” that was on view in the One Stop building at KCC moves to the Performing Arts Center lobby for the evening. Kaua’i Cabaret is a fun fundraiser for PFLAG and Lambda Aloha.

Doors open at 6 p.m.; performances begin at 7. Tickets cost $10/advance, $15/door or purchase online for $12 at kauaicabaret.com.
