Kimo’s Vegas
WELCOME TO Kimo’s Vegas … The Player’s Edge!
THE LEBRON JAMES party train pulls into Vegas as the King holds court at Tao. In the entourage, his dad, Eddie Jackson; his management firm, Randy Mims, Maverick Carter, Richard Paul, Chris Paul (Hornets) and brother C.J. If you missed the tallest guy in the crowd (at 6-foot-8) you couldn’t miss his five bodyguards.
ALL THE KING’S MEN … “Legends in Concert” presented the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Contest on the Fremont Street Experience. Elvi (plural for many Elvises … OK, I made that up) from across the country competed to be the King of all Vegas Kings. The $2,500 cash, a Graceland Getaway and the chance to compete in the 2010 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest in Memphis went to Las Vegas impersonator Justin Shandor.
TO COMMEMORATE Elvis’ 75th birthday, a new CD titled Viva Elvis will be released in November. Modeled after the Vegas show of the same name, the producers say what will make this album different is it will be made as if the King were still performing today.
FIFTY-FOUR BUCKS will get you into three Vegas attractions. Make money: choose Bodies … The Exhibition (Luxor), Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition (Luxor) and CSI: The Experience (MGM Grand). Lose money: The Roller Coaster (New York-New York), the Shark Reef Aquarium (Mandalay Bay), Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat (The Mirage) and SpongeBob Squarepants 4D ride (Excalibur) are cheaper if bought individually.
ROBIN LEACH reports that Bill’s Gamblin’Hall & Saloon will be renamed and completely remodeled. The end run will be a boutique hotel, casino and a 24-hour party palace.
ROBIN HOOD 702 strikes again. The professional gambler uses his skills (and his own money) to take from the casinos and help those less fortunate. This time the beneficiary was a family whose dad is fighting Stage 4 cancer of the colon, liver, adrenal glands and lungs. After being down more than $200,000, the tables turned and Hood won enough to pay their rent and groceries for a year and then some.
WHAT ARE THE ODDS? Sports books in Vegas like the Dallas Cowboys (8-1) and the Indianapolis Colts (7-1) to win the 2011 Super Bowl. Teams with a snowball’s chance in the Nevada desert are the St. Louis Rams (200-1). The Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers and Detroit Lions are next at 100-1.
