WILLIAM PERRIN routinely bought lottery tickets with co-worker Diana Walker. They agreed that if they got lucky and hit the big one, they’d split the winnings. Prior to her trip to Las Vegas, Perrin told her all about the multimillion-dollar slot machine called Megabucks. He printed an article about the machine with implicit instructions to play max coins so she would be eligible for the maximum jackpot. He gave her $6 and put a sticky note on the article reminding her of their agreement to “split any winnings” (How many times have you given a coworker lucky money?). Well, on Jan. 21, his $6 turned into $15, and then the heavens aligned and Walker hit the $12.7 million life-changing jackpot … The case is expected to go to court in January where a jury will decide if the note on the Post-It is a valid contract.
WHAT’S THE BEST BJ strategy? As you know, each casino can employ a slightly different set of rules for the game of “21,” and your play should reflect these subtle differences to minimize the house edge. Stanford Wong’s Current Blackjack News is published on the third day of each month and it details the rules and playing conditions in every Vegas casino. DIJA KNOW that every day more than 22,000 people cruise through the Bellagio’s Conservatory and Botanical Gardens? On display this fall is a 20-foot-tall cornucopia, a 15-foot scarecrow, a talking apple tree, a 35foot-tall cider mill complete with stream and pumpkins that weigh 300 to 1,000 pounds. Also check out the meadow with three horse sculptures created from more than 31,000 plants now through Nov 27.
A WALK DOWN Fremont will bring you to the front door of a new Vegas eatery … The Heart Attack Grill is now open for business and you can’t miss its façade on Neonopolis. The waitresses wear mock nurses uniforms and they are serious (as a heart attack) and warn guests that “Side effects may include sudden weight gain, repeated increase in wardrobe size, back pain, loss of sexual partners, lung cancer, liver sclerosis, stroke and an inability to see your junk.” If that doesn’t scare the carnivore outta you, try their signature 8,000-calorie “Quadruple Bypass” burger … It’s large enough to feed a third-world village.
“WE’RE BACK …” That’s what casino operators have been saying on their earnings calls. In August, a loss in baccarat play was the primary reason betting on the Strip was down $496.9 million. If you eliminate the only game where you can bet on the player or the house’s hand from the numbers, the Stripcinos actually (surprise) beat the players.
