What’s New In Acupuncture
Molly Jones
Acupuncturist
Molly Jones is a licensed acupuncturist who has been helping patients heal from ailments such as allergies and chronic pain since 1989 on Kaua’i. While she still occasionally uses the traditional method of needles placed at various points on the body to restore energy flow, Jones has been practicing a newer form of vial-based therapy since 1996.
What is the difference between acupuncture needles and vials? With the needles you’re treating different points on your body, or meridians, so you can move energy and balance energy and strengthen it. It’s freeing the energy to move better. When you’re needling with acupuncture, you can get a lot of results for things like chronic pain. However, for gnarly stuff, like deep-seated allergies, exposure to pesticides or chemicals like Agent Orange, a vial-based technique works better. The body has a really hard time healing from those types of insults. What you can do for them with acupuncture is strengthen their organs, maybe balance their organs and so forth. With a vibrational vial, for example, you can actually repair the damage done by Agent Orange.
What exactly are vibrational vials? They are tubes filled with vibrationally imprinted substances. For example, the egg vial is as close as you can get vibrationally to a natural egg; they are very close energetically to the real thing and they’re boosted up so they’re more powerful.
How can they help heal someone? Any time you come in contact with an allergen you become energetically weak, which is why you are symptomatic. If you put a vial on the body and strengthen the acupuncture points at the same time, you will not have that reaction. You’ll have a lot more resistance; you’ll definitely notice a difference. So if you’re allergic to eggs, you can take the vibrationally imprinted vial and strengthen your energy. Over time you’ll be able to tolerate eggs. I have vials for every type of allergy – all the standard allergies.
What is an example of how the therapy has helped? I worked with a guy who was working in a place where he had contact with printed inks, bulk printed inks, and he was really in bad shape and almost unable to work; almost not even able to function. We persistently worked over a period of time on print inks and other things he was allergic to and he improved to where he could come into contact with that stuff and not keel over like he was. So it’s a real effective, practical way to work on substances that are affecting people.
How does the needle treatment work? It depends on what you’re treating. For example, if you’re treating digestive disorders like candida – problematic yeast – then you’d probably give acupuncture around the spleen and stomach meridians and also give an anti-candida agent, along with changing the person’s diet.
How does acupuncture differ from conventional medicine? It’s energetic. Conventional medicine is mostly biochemical. Conventional medicine has treatments that are necessary and useful, but in general, they don’t treat the root of the problem. This is something that is trying to treat the root. If someone is really sick, however, they need conventional medicine – there’s no replacing it because it’s powerful. Where they are missing the boat is not focusing on the root.
What is your background within the field? I studied in England with a famous acupuncturist named J.R. Worsley. I then received a license in California in 1979 and also Hawaii. I have since moved on and studied other things like the vibrational vials. I really like them because you can do a lot more with them that you can’t do with just acupuncture needles.
What are some of the challenges you face with clients? It’s not so much that people need to believe in this, but they have to stick to it.
How long do the treatments last? They vary. Depending on the person, it could take two treatments or it could take 10 years. It’s easy to overtreat, so certainly not more than twice a week at most.
What does each treatment cost? It depends on how much time it takes me. Usually the first time someone comes in, it would be $65 for about 45 minutes. But after that, if I can do the treatment in a half an hour for $50, and some of these allergy treatments can take 25 minutes or less for $35.
How do you measure success? When someone improves and you can tell.
What is the most common ailment on Kaua’i? A lot of people have trouble with vog and mold, which I can treat.
What is your No. 1 piece of advice to stay healthy? Your diet should be pretty clean.
