National Tropical Botanical Garden in Po’ipu hosted a Breadfruit Festival. More than 1,400 visitors arrived during the daylong event to celebrate all things ‘ulu. The Sept. 15 festival featured numerous cooking demonstrations, including by celebrity chef Sam Choy. Meanwhile, attendees dined on food centered around breadfruit, from ‘ulu burgers and breadfruit curry plate lunch to bread made from breadfruit flour. Folks also were able to buy young trees ready to plant so they could grow their own ‘ulu supply at home.
