Festival Celebrates Queen Emma’s Journey
Held in Kanaloahuluhulu Meadow in front of Kokee Museum Oct. 12 was the Eo e Emmalani i Alaka’i Festival, commemorating the 1871 journey by Queen Emma up to the mountain forests. The annual event is held on the second Saturday in October. At noon, “Queen Emma” enters the meadow on horseback, led by her guide Kaluahi, represented by a local paniolo. Then hula halau from across the Islands perform for the queen and her court.
