Prince Kuhio Canoe Race

Despite a harrowing paddle at the Garden Island Canoe Racing Association Prince Kuhio fundraiser at Nawiliwili Harbor, folks were all smiles afterward. High swells of 8 to 10 feet and high winds made for a white-knuckle course to Kipukai and back, where paddlers waited anxiously until the last canoe – which swamped – made it back safely. As one paddler put it, “Spaghetti, salad, bread and rice pudding never tasted so good.” There are three GICRA fundraisers annually, including Prince Kuhio, the GICRA championships and Na Pali Challenge.
