Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho Jr. celebrated half a century with his 50th Birthday Bash Oct. 8 at Kilohana Luau Hale in Lihu’e. The ’50s-themed event sported a display of classic cars, jukebox centerpieces and guests dressed in greaser outfits and poodle skirts, as well as a dessert table with an LP record-inspired birthday cake. Guests were serenaded by none other than Carvalho himself, who sang ’50s-era songs including All I Have to do is Dream by The Everly Brothers and Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and The Comets.
