Dr. Monty Downs is retiring as emergency department physician for Wilcox Medical Center on April 17. Downs has been with Wilcox since 1972, and became Kaua‘i’s first board-certified emergency
Dr. Roger Netzer retired as otolaryngologist for Wilcox Medical Center after 50 years on April 7. Netzer became Kaua‘i’s first ear, nose and throat specialist in 1973. He also served as the hospital’s

room physician in 1983. Beyond his work as a physician, he and his wife Elaine also donate to Wilcox. Their gift will enable the hospital to renovate exam rooms in the new emergency department, which is slated to be completed next month. He is a Kaua‘i Lifeguard Association member and a team physician for Kapa‘a High School’s football squad. Downs will begin his role as medical director for Kaua‘i Hospice on May 1.

He received his medical degree from University of Michigan and previously practiced in Newport Beach, California. Netzer looks forward to spending his retirement volunteering for projects and organizations working for the community.
