to adorn different projects. Each rose will be unique, just like you!
I am sharing how to take paper, such as newspaper, and
drawing pad and cut it into 1- or 1.5-inch strips that are about 12-inches long. The drawing paper is lightweight
Using paper is both easier and trickier than using ribbon. Depending on the ribbon, it can be slippery and hard to

1 Cut the paper into strips about 1- to 1.5-inches wide and 12- to 15-inches
long. Take the right end and fold down about 2 inches as pictured. A triangle point will form at the right end of the paper strip.
2 Pick the paper strip up and from the right end; start to roll the paper clockwise across to the left side. Roll tightly until you have 2-3 layers.
This forms the center of the rose.
3 Continue to roll
the paper strip clock- wise but now slightly fold the top
edge over as you make a turn when you roll the strip. This forms the outer rose petals. As you roll, hold the bot- tom of the rose in place. The top edge of the ribbon will be more open and the bottom edge will be held close
to the core.
4 When you like the size
of the rose or
just have about 2
inches left of the
paper strip, bring
the end to the
bottom to meet with the beginning of the strip. Then wrap/twist the two straight ends together under the rose.
Tape the ends
together so the rose does not unravel.
6 You may accent the
rose with color by
brushing on some watercolors. As
you add watercol-
or, it will soften the
paper and make it
more pliable. You
can carefully shape
the petals at this
time. Set aside to
dry. When the rose dries, add a light coat of clear sealent.
