Kryptonite Meets Its Match
In a performance worthy of comparison to the heroics of Superman, the Afterburners turned on their jets and fended off Kryptonite (pictured in the green jerseys) in a semifinal match of the Kaua’i Men’s Open Soccer Association winter league playoffs March 6 at Lydgate Park.
The Afterburners escaped with a 2-1 victory after the two squads needed a shootout to determine the outcome after remaining deadlocked through both the regulation and overtime periods. It was Eli Emory (No. 15 pictured below) who put the Afterburners over the top with his deciding blast past goalkeeper Christian McKeown.
The “Semi Sunday” win landed the Afterburners in the league finals March 13.
