  IChronological Disorder
find that it is now useless to have a calendar. I take that back. For my job, everything revolves around a calendar: deadlines and publication break dates. But
everything we do is for an advance date, so we’re always working ahead on something that doesn’t come out for at least another week or two.
That really messes with my internal mental clock. Of course, I’ve been living under that regimen for more than 37 years so it’s become second nature. Some of our young- er staff members are still getting used to it.
Being young has advantages. When you get to be my age, time seems compressed and one day leads to the next seamlessly. When our lives revolved around our kids, everything was done according to their calendar. School, summer vacations, holidays, sports and activity schedules ruled our lives.
School still rules our schedule with regard to traffic. The start of public school is actually mapped out on our kitchen calendar because it indicates when we have to start waking up an hour earlier. In addition, we also plot the start of UH, which means public school traffic squared.
As a major movie buff, I used to map out all the coming movies I wanted to see. However, because of all the restric- tions of the past year, movies I want to see keep getting pushed back. For example, the latest James Bond movie was originally supposed to come out in April 2020. I finally saw it in the theater the day before opening day Oct. 8 this year.
I bought concert tickets for Hall & Oates in 2019. After two reschedules, I’m hoping to take my wife to see them next month. I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick a foot- ball that Lucy is holding.
In September, I saw the opening of those Halloween pop- up stores. Also, in September, while my wife was watching television, I saw a commercial announcing that on Oct. 22, the Hallmark Channel Countdown To Christmas begins. That means this Friday, Hallmark runs its Christmas line- up 24/7 a week before Halloween and probably until New Year’s Day 2022!
Our wedding anniversary is on Dec. 26. All my male friends tell me that was a great move for I will never forget my anniversary date. Of course, that was never the reason we got married then.
Something about the season, both religious and mood, compelled us to tie the knot that wonderful and magical day. If only my wife’s birthday was on Easter Sunday, I’d be golden!
