about Dr. Seuss! Since 1998, children and adults have celebrated that day as Dr. Seuss Day and National Read Across America Day. It is the start of a weeklong celebration of reading to encourage not just children,
people started their reading journey with his books and can often recite their fa- vorite verses. Which one is your favorite? Green Eggs and Ham? Horton Hears a Who? Or, the classic Cat in the Hat? If you have chil-

So, spend some time reading, and yes, craft books count! And have a fun week of happy crafting! As Dr. Seuss would say, “If you never did, you should. These things are fun and fun is good!”

*NOTE: The base of the bookmark is folded the same way as the origami heart bookmark.
You can use any size of square paper; your heart will just be larger or smaller. Using lighter weight paper like origami, gift wrap or copy paper makes it easier to fold. You can use thicker weights like cardstock or construction paper. The thicker paper will just be a little harder to crease and fold.
1 Position the paper on point like a diamond.
2
4 Take the 3-inch-by-3-inch white square and cut diagonally in half to make two
triangles.
Cut by hand or use a paper
trimmer as shown.
You will only need one of the
triangles.
Fold the top point down to the bottom point, forming a triangle. Crease well.
At the bottom points, take the top
layer and fold up to the center of the straight fold. Crease well.
Take the right side point and
fold it down to the bottom point. Crease well.
Tuck the point into and under the pocket. Crease well.
3
Repeat step 2 with the left
side point.
This is the bookmark base.
5 Trace and cut out the eyes from cardstock according to the patterns.
For the ears, you can use a 1-inch circle punch or trace a quarter.
6 Place each of the 1-inch black circles on either side of the bookmark base, with half sticking
above the base. Tape in place.
Position the white triangle over the base, matching
the edges and tape in place for the panda’s face.
7 Place the black eye pads on the triangle and tape in place. Place the white small circles
on top and tape in place.
Use the black marker to draw in the pupils of
the eyes and the panda’s nose.
8 Place the panda on the corner of the page you want to bookmark for later.
